The kind of wedding that felt like stepping into a storybook.
Courtney and Max’s wedding day was pure magic — the kind of day that feels like them in every possible way. Whimsical, artful, and overflowing with heart. Every wedding detail in the Barrel Room at Destihl Brewery in Normal, Illinois told a story — their story.
From a bookshelf seating chart filled with their loved ones’ names to a vinyl record backdrop handcrafted by Max’s dad, nothing was random. Their favorite books wrapped in jewel tones sat on a bookshelf display as their seating chart, and even their florals tied back to their love of art and creativity. You could tell how much thought and care went into every inch of it.
When I arrived that morning, it was clear how much care they and their people had poured into making this celebration their own. Friends and family worked side by side decorating, laughing, and creating something truly magical — the kind of all-hands-on-deck energy that shows how loved these two are. Meanwhile, Courtney was getting ready at Max’s dad Ken’s home — a cozy white house tucked under a massive tree that held a reason she wanted to get ready at his house. Their beloved cat Franklin, was also buried on the land. She wore a robe made from her mother’s wedding gown and was surrounded by lifelong friends she’s known for more than a decade. It was peaceful, emotional, and full of love before the celebration even began.
She shared a first look with her dad and I don’t think there was a dry eye on the porch (myself included). Then she and Max took a few quiet moments together before heading to the ceremony — grounding themselves, taking it all in, and sharing a glimpse of what was ahead.
Their ceremony was just as intentional as everything else. Courtney’s brother strummed his guitar as guests arrived, her dad officiated, and Max’s sister baked their beautiful cake. Their vows were deeply personal — they even shared how they celebrate the day they met back in February 2019 instead of an official “dating anniversary,” because they both just knew.
The celebration that followed was vibrant and joy-filled — cocktails, laughter, incredible food (I’m still dreaming about those stuffed poblano peppers), and an evening of dancing that perfectly matched their energy. From “Dancing Queen” to “Yeah!” by Usher, the dance floor never slowed down. The night ended just how it should have — cozy, warm, and bursting with laughter and love.
Courtney and Max’s wedding wasn’t just beautiful — it was meaningful in every way. A day rooted in art, family, inclusion, and love. The kind that reminds you what it means to belong and to be seen. A wedding that leaves you smiling the whole drive home, reminded of how good it feels to be surrounded by people who love so deeply.
