Karaoke, Laughter & Love: Harper & Kaleb’s Unique Iowa Wedding Day
Harper and Kaleb’s celebration at Lowe Park in Marion, Iowa was nothing short of magical. From the moment Kaleb saw Harper in her unique floral-printed gown during their first look, you could feel the joy radiating between them. The dress was perfectly her—elegant, fun, and unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
Before their ceremony, Harper and Kaleb chose to read their vows privately. Just the two of them (and me, quietly in the background like a fly on the wall 😂). Neither thought they could make it through their words with an audience watching, so they carved out a moment that was intimate, emotional, and full of love. Tears were shed, laughter was shared, and it was such a privilege to witness their forever beginning in that quiet moment.
As guests gathered on the amphitheater stage, the sky shifted. What started as a sprinkle quickly turned into a full downpour. Harper looked out from the bridal suite, worried about her guests outside in the rain, while Kaleb rushed out to help cover the DJ’s equipment. Without hesitation, the ceremony was moved indoors to the reception hall, right in front of the head table.
And here’s the thing—no drama, no stress, no upset bride. Just two people who cared more about their friends and family being comfortable than about having a “perfect fairy tale wedding.” As Harper’s sister, Sydney, said during her toast, that’s simply who Harper and Kaleb are: thoughtful, grounded, and always putting others first.
Mother Nature must have felt bad about the timing, because not long after, the skies cleared to reveal sunshine and the most stunning rainbow. It was like a gift just for them. 🌈
The reception was filled with so many personal touches. Their first dance—an edgy, punky love song—fit them perfectly as they sang every word to each other, leaning into the truth of the lyrics. Kaleb had a surprise for his mom, too. Instead of a traditional dance, his brother Nick performed Tennessee Whiskey karaoke-style while they danced. His mom was in tears, overwhelmed with love. Harper and her dad switched things up as well, skipping the dance in favor of karaoke—singing her mom’s favorite song. Cue more tears.
Every moment of their wedding day felt intentional, unique, and so true to who they are. Instead of ending the night with DJ-led dancing, they chose karaoke for the entire reception. And it. was. awesome. From Eminem to Fleetwood Mac, Backstreet Boys to Chappell Roan, the energy was unmatched. One of the funniest moments was when Harper’s best friend Jayme surprised her with a blow-up pink pony costume during their performance of Pink Pony Club. Everyone was doubled over in laughter.
Harper and Kaleb’s Iowa wedding was the perfect reflection of their personalities: relaxed, joyful, intentional, and fun. Rain or shine, they embraced every moment with love and laughter—and that’s what makes a wedding day unforgettable.
